Will it be a Home Run?

All eyes are on the batter as the pitcher winds up. Will it be a home run that will send the batter and the three players on First, Second, and Third Base home for a Grand Slam and a game win? The crowd collectively holds its breath.

The Roswell Woman’s Club is holding its breath too in anticipation that the last two days of the 16th Annual Showcase Home Tour will be home runs as well—raising a significant amount of money for college scholarships, grants to classroom teachers, and donations to 18 North Fulton charities.

Home Plate, a brand new home graciously lent for this charity event by retired Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Mark Wohlers and his family after a devasting fire,

has been receiving rave reviews from visitors. Guests love the style, the architectural details, and the dccor created by some of Atlanta’s most noted designers. No matter where you look from the largest design element to the smallest detail, you’re sure to get numerous ideas for your own home.

The Terrace Level powder room above, for example,  features a stone wall, a bowl sink, warm wood tones, and striking artwork.

The wet bar in the Terrace Level Media/Billiard Room has every convenience. The entire entertainment area on the Terrace Level was created by Maxine Hyland of Kings Home Furnishings.

Don’t let this last opportunity go by without visiting Home Plate, which closes its doors tomorrow, Sunday May 20th, at 6:00. It’s not too late to purchase online tickets ($18) through the links on this website www.roswellwomansclub.org , or at our two outlets—The Chandlery (www.chandlerygifts.com) on Canton Street in the heart of Historic Roswell and Sip (www.sipwineshop.com) on Crabapple Road, or at the door ($20).

Heading For Home

The runner is dancing back and forth at third base poised to steal home. The crowd jumps up to their feet to cheer him on. They’ve been more than entertained by the success of the 16th Annual Roswell Woman’s Club Showcase Home Tour—this year at Home Plate, the home of Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Mark Wohlers and his family.

Speaking of being entertained? Have we mentioned the entertainment area on the Terrace Level? A huge open room decorated by Maxine Hyland of Kings Home Furnishings (www.kingshomefurnishings.net) features plush comfortable seating, a wall-size big screen TV, a pool table, and a wet bar. A smaller game room boasts several pinball machines. Everything a family could possibly need for a fun evening or something to do on a rainy day can be found here.

Both the main-floor gathering room created by Judy Hicks (judyhicks@charter.net) and the outdoor living space on the back porch, created by Clark Miller of Casual Image Furniture (www.CasualImage.com) feature fireplaces and large-screen TVs. The porch also boasts a built-in grill.

The second-floor children’s den playfully designed by Seth Pennington and Cristi Rojevac of Insidesign (www.MyInsidesign.com) has a large-screen TV and plenty of shelves and cabinets for storing games and crafts.

Then there’s the pool and patio area just of the porch. Adding to the appeal are a hot tub, firepit, and a pergola. You can easily imagine many happy days spent here as well as a variety of parties for kids and adults.

Before this game ends on Sunday, May 20th at 6:00, make plans to be part of the excitement by being there. You can purchase tickets from a link at this site or at www.roswellwomansclub.org.

Resting on Third Base/Ready to Steal Home

The runner is on third taking a well-deserved breather until the opportunity comes when he can steal home.  Unlike the resting runner, folks who are interested in visiting Home Plate, the home of retired Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Mark Wohlers and his family, shouldn’t be taking it easy. They should be making immediate plans to visit the 16th Annual Roswell Woman’s Club Showcase Home Tour this Friday, Saturday, or Sunday—because those are the last three days of the tour.

Other blog posts in this series have described the gathering room, kichen, dining areas, and the Master Suite on the main level; the children’s domain on the second level; the media room and other entertainment spaces on the Terrace Level; and the outstanding outdoor living space on the rear porch.

Not to be neglected is the guest room on the second level. It’s tucked away in a wing by itself, which ensures quiet and privacy. Any overnight guest would enjoy the tranquil views of the pool and patio area as well as the vast backyard.

The decor by Esperanza Koop of Sol Interiors is one of simple sophistication and reflects her enthusiasm for a stimulating blend of eclectic, modern, and classical elements.

What You Can Do At Home Plate

Of course, most people visit a showcase home to get decorating ideas. Some even visit to get architectual ideas for a house they might plan to build.

But that’s not all you can do at Home Plate, the home of retired Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Mark Wohlers and his family.

You can purchase many of the pieces of furniture and the accessories. It’s so much easier to see the impact of a piece in a residential setting than crowded into a retail space with hundreds of others.

There have already been several special events, but if you’ve missed them, there are still two more scheduled:  Pastis Restuarant will sponsor a wine tasting on Wednesday, May 16th from 3:00-5:00. Master Gardener Christena Bender, owner of The Good Earth Designs, will present “Creating Something Green” on Saturday, May 19th, which will create a spring wreath.

In addition, The Chandlery has a gift shop on the premises with numerous creative and innovative items. The club is offering several raffle items on which you can purchase chances: an iPad, a David Yurman bracelet and earrings, and four tickets to a Braves game. A Delightful Bitefull offers a variety of lunches each day.

Home Plate will be closed on Monday and Tuesday but will reopen on Wednesday, May 16 at 10:00. This will be the last week. The tour will end on Sunday, May 20th at 6:00 so don’t wait too long.

Kids are Kings at Home Plate

Space for kids to play together and also to have their privacy is paramount at Home Plate, the home of retired Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Mark Wohlers and his family, which is serving as the 16th Annual Roswell Woman’s Club Showcase Home Tour.

Almost the entire second story of the spacious home is devoted to the small fry. In addition to each child’s bedroom—each widely separated from the next, there’s a huge common room with a large screen TV and comfortable seating, a table and chairs for snacks or homework, and an area with seemingly miles of cabinets and countertops for making and storing projects. Insidesign used cool neutrals accented with bright pops of color for this multiuse area.

The two boy’s bedrooms, both designed by Kookoo Bear Baby & Kids, feature red, white, and blue color schemes. One is decorated in a sports theme and the other a travel/nautical theme.
